    Default Big-Time Barbecue Rub

    Big-Time Barbecue Rub

    This is a very good basic barbecue rub. It works well on any food for smoking or grilling.
    • 1/2 C salt
    • 1/2 C turbinado sugar
    • 1/4 C granulated brown sugar
    • 1 TBSP granulated garlic*
    • 1 TBSP granulated onion*
    • 2 TBSP paprika
    • 2 TBSP chili powder
    • 2 TBSP freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 TSP cayenne pepper
    • 1 TBSP dried thyme
    • 1 TBSP cumin
    • 1 TSP ground nutmeg
    *Powder can be substituted for granules.

    I'm gonna try this rub on a couple of slabs of pork ribs, and some chicken this afternoon. I like the mix of spices and the different ways the rub tastes when sampled after mixing. I dropped the brown sugar as it lumps too much and added extra raw sugar. I'm always looking for that "perfect rub" and although flavor based a lot on personal preference I really like that flavor combination. And it will make a good starting point for new rub ideas as well..Thanks Big Pig for the recipe.
