Default Does Prime rib = rib-eye roast?

Guys,

I’m looking forward to trying the salting method of preparing a Prime Rib roast. But I have a question on beef cuts in general. What’s the difference between the Prime Rib and a Rib-Eye Roast? Is a boneless Prime rib the same as a Rib-Eye Roast? What more, is a Spencer roast the same as a Rib-Eye roast?

Thanks in advance!

True Prime Rib is "Prime" beef. It is the same cut as a bone-in rib roast.

But what most of us have had out was less than "prime" rib. It's still really good, so go for it.

"Prime Rib" is typically prepared from a 7 bone cut of beef rib. In the restaurant trade, it's referred to as an Export Rib. Once the meat has been separated from the bone, it's a Rib Eye. A steak from the Rib Eye is sometimes called a Delmonico steak.
